The Source of the Sound Miriam Batia Smolover

The Source of the Sound is dedicated to my beloved uncle, Cantor Dr. Raymond Smolover, of blessed memory z”l, whose quote, “The sound of the sacred leads to the Source of the sound,” provided the words for my title track. Uncle Ray transformed the world of Jewish sacred music by incorporating contemporary rock music into services in the 1970’s. He was an enthusiastic cultivator of creativity in many people’s lives, and was actively engaged in creative projects up to the end of his life at 94. As I grow older, I take inspiration from his lifelong passion for creative self-expression and for helping others do the same.
